Frequently asked

How does my calorie target work? Your calorie target is your sedentary baseline (BMR × 1.2) + your deficit (or surplus) + 75% of today's activity burn. Activity "earns back" 75% of the calories you burn, because tracker estimates run 20–40% high. The target updates live as you log workouts.

How do I connect Apple Health? Open the Activity tab and tap the Apple Health banner (or the activity card menu). Grant permissions for steps, active energy, workouts, sleep, and weight. byte. pulls those in automatically each time the app opens.

Can I edit a past day's data? Partially. From the Trends tab you can edit calories, macros, water, steps, sleep, and weight on any past day. Adding or removing individual meals on past days isn't supported yet — it's planned.

How does Root know about my history? Root sees your recent context: today's totals, your last few days of meals, your 7- and 30-day trends, workouts, pantry, saved recipes, and any notes you've shared — so its answers are grounded in your real data.

How do I update my weight? Three ways: (1) Profile → Your information, (2) Progress → Goals → Update measurements, or (3) a smart scale that syncs to Apple Health.

How do I cancel my subscription? Subscriptions are managed through the App Store: App Store → your profile picture → Subscriptions → byte. → Cancel. Your data stays with your account either way.

How do I delete my account or data? You can delete your account from within the app, or email us at [email protected] and we'll take care of it.
